Imdb iron danger6/13/2023 ![]() Let’s say you get hit by an enemy, you just have to find the attack on the heartbeat bar, and click on a heartbeat prior to the attack. For instance, blocking, moving, attacking or being attacked are all represented here. Iron DangerĪ bar along the bottom of your screen shows these heartbeats, and it also gives you information about what is going on during them. The turn based-combat is different to usual turn based RPGs: when you move, time moves, a la SUPERHOT. The turns take the form of ‘heartbeats’, and each action takes a certain number of these. When combat is initiated, it is done so in the form of turn-based combat. It’s the main gimmick of the title, but not a gimmick in a negative sense. Iron Danger has a key feature that other dungeon crawlers generally don’t have, the ability to rewind time. ![]() Don’t worry about the huge amounts of icons along the bottom of the screen, they don’t come in until combat. Moving around the world is a simple case of clicking to move your character to where they need to go. Taking a look at Iron Danger, you might be forgiven for thinking that it is just another isometric dungeon crawler, and that is how the game plays - at least initially. Some levels can even be tackled by avoiding combat altogether. Prefer stealthy or shouting and screaming? Both are valid. Your adventure is separated into different levels, which can be tackled in a variety of ways. Àfter surviving an attack on her hometown of Kalevala, she finds herself at the heart of a war between the people of Kalevala and the Northlanders, led by the evil witch queen, Lowhee. You take the role of Kipuna, who is granted ancient time control powers after falling into a sinkhole and becoming impaled by a mysterious crystal shard. Iron Danger is a game heavily inspired by Finnish folklore. It ticks all the boxes: small team indie game, unique premise, quirky artstyle, but there’s something that just doesn’t stick right, something that stops Iron Danger being as good as it could be. On paper, Iron Danger is the perfect game for me. Iron Danger falls into this category, and I’ve struggled to work out how I feel about it. Then there are some games that seem to occupy this mid-ground, games that I enjoy, but I’m not sure whether I really like them or not. It’s also possible to play a game for hours, for something to just click into place and make it a personal classic. There is a lack of branching and real decisions, that would have been beneficial for the game. It’s possible for me to play a game and instantly fall in love with it. But then a new run-through isn’t that exciting anymore, because there are only a few decisions, hardly any character-individualization and although the story is exciting and of high quality, it is also very linear. In its present form, you play through the story once, which is also a totally good experience. Chances were missed here, which could have been implemented with relatively little effort. And the game would have been even more appealing for RPG fans on the one hand and on the other hand, it might have resulted in increased replay value. Here a lot more would have been possible, a small inventory system, some equipment and maybe a few basic values for level-ups. I am also a bit disappointed with the role-playing possibilities offered by Iron Danger. For my taste, the game could offer another game mode or any other features that would provide replay value. Depending on how you play, Iron Danger offers 10-20 hours of play, which brings the purchase price in the reasonable to acceptable range. But both the skill selection, like the control of the characters in the world and the extensive options of the time travel function are technically well implemented. Since the game has a wide range of functions, the controls are correspondingly complex. Especially Kipuna has quickly become dear to my heart. The story is easy to follow and the main characters also have some personality. It has many thrilling, but also some sad and grim moments. ![]() ![]() It offers some surprises and twists and turns. ![]() Because of the time travel mechanism, this is also possible for not so experienced tacticians, maybe you have to rewind 2-3 times more, but with a little bit of trial and error, I was able to find a solution in every fight. Iron Danger – fancy tactical story RPG with time loops (This is a short excerpt of my longer review, that you can read here: Iron Danger – fancy tactical story RPG with time loops (This is a short excerpt of my longer review, that you can read here: ) Iron Danger is great fun, if you like tactics and planning turn-based strategy fights down to the last detail. ![]()
